Filmmaking in the Carpathians: A Kids’ Cinema-camp Horyanka

At the beginning of 2022, many people unexpectedly had to relocate due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Because of this, we found ourselves in the heart of the Carpathian Valley. Every day brought new horrifying events, and as an attempt to distract ourselves, we organized a charity camp for children who, like us, found themselves in the Carpathians unplanned.

For about two weeks, we shared our experience in cinematography, revealed behind-the-scenes secrets, and taught stagecraft. We also held sessions on stage movement, and ultimately, together, we wrote a script and planned the shooting of our own short film. You can watch the trailer for it here.

The screening of the film became an event that brought together local residents, filled with sympathy and solidarity. This moment in the midst of chaos allowed us to once again feel the warmth and kindness that are so dear to us.
